About Boot Your Baggage
Boot Your Baggage works with individuals overwhelmed by their cluttered, unorganized environment and who desire a permanent change. Our clutter clearing approach helps people identify and change the way they relate to material possessions in order to live a more harmonious and value-driven life - focusing on the non-material gifts of living more with less. We help you understand why you accumulate too much stuff and what implications it is having on your life as we incorporate self-awareness techniques and apply principles of the KonMari Method of tidying with trained counseling skills.
About Anna Fitzgerald
Being a third generation Texan who comes from a long line of ‘collectors,’ accumulating has been in my family’s DNA for generations - not to mention, a problem for myself until a few years ago.
My curiosity with too much stuff started in the 70’s while watching the sitcom, Sanford and Son. Through the years my fascination with things and why people over consume continued and was further peaked by the book, “Stuff: Compulsive Hoarding and the Meaning of Things,” by Gail Steketee and Randy O. Frost, while in graduate school.
After completing my Master's degree in clinical mental health counseling, I helped my parents through a major downsize. No small task considering they had been married for over 58 years and had accumulated a lifetime’s worth of belongings and stuff. Through the process of helping my parents be unburdened by their trappings, I came to realize I didn’t want myself or others to be in the winter of life stuck with a stockpile of stuff, and be tied down to their trappings.
For Christmas in 2014, I was given a copy of Marie Kondo’s International Bestselling book, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.” The title certainly resonated enough, but the wisdom of Kondo’s method and story of her journey was so strong I read the entire book that same afternoon. The whole time I was reading the book, I kept saying out loud, yes, yes, yes! I was immediately inspired to pursue certification to teach the KonMari method. As luck would have it, Marie and her KonMari Team brought their consultants training to the U.S. I was fortunate enough to be part of the first consultants training in NYC in August of 2016 and in 2017 I became the first certified KonMari Consultant in Virginia!
Now more than ever, people are looking for more meaning in their lives. As a society, we are seeing a shift towards valuing people, feelings and experiences over things. Because of my own personal experience, I decided to combine my passion of psychology and organizing, coupled with my counseling training, to launch my coaching and consulting business, Boot Your Baggage.
It would be my honor and pleasure to empower you and be your guide to help you to live more with less through organizing and finally understanding how your stuff may be holding you back.
What are you waiting for? Let’s Boot Your Baggage!
